The Panacea
We have all been impacted by COVID-19 outbreak. Some medically, others financially, and the mental strain has touched us all. The fight against this invisible enemy is far from over, and he doesn’t fight fair. But this is not the first invisible enemy man has had to fight. From Genesis to Revelations, we have had to endure the deceptions and snares of this invisible enemy. He deceived Adam into disobeying God’s law, overtook Cain with jealousy causing him to commit the first murder, and has been slithering up to God’s people ever since.
Paul masterfully builds his case that Sin has affected us all, culminating with the pinnacle statement, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Rom 3:23). No matter how important or seemingly insignificant, we all have the same problem—Sin. And like so many enemies, he doesn’t work alone. Sin brings death (Rom 5:12).
But God provided a remedy for Sin. One that would gain the victory over both Sin and death. God prepared a panacea for the world! Dictionary.com defines a panacea as “a remedy for all disease or ills; an answer or solution for all problems or difficulties.” Jesus is the answer! He can be touched with the feeling of your infirmities because He was tempted in all things, just like us. Just like you, He was mortal (Phil 2:7-8) but suffered death so we could be freed from Sin and his power. (Rom 6:3-7). Just as scientists are looking for the solution to COVID-19 in the blood, the solution to Sin is in His blood. Jesus has defeated our invisible enemy—Sin and provided the remedy for our sins through His blood.
Be encouraged, we will develop a vaccine for COVID-19, but the panacea will always be Jesus.
